On Tapes, And The Making Of Tapes

Broken Circle Cult Records is operating at full power in Colorado Springs!

We're gearing up to re-release a lot of material, and this means not only uploading tracks for digital distribution but also burning some good old-fashioned CDs and DVDs as well as recording cassettes and VHS tapes.

Naturally the CD/DVD production is easier, as those tasks can be accomplished on our computers. But when it comes to tapes of any kind, the technology to produce them is a little harder to come by as the years go on.

So if you have a working VCR or cassette player that you no longer need, please consider becoming a sponsor of Broken Circle Cult. In return for your generous contribution, you will receive a gift pack featuring some of our most popular and/or subversive material.

Comment on this post, email us at brokencirclecult@gmail.com, or find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/BrokenCircleRecords/ if you have any machinery that might help us spread the good word of the Broken Circle Cult.

Clark Nova Returns to Junktown

TONIGHT IN GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO:

Clark Nova with Thousand Faced Moon
Self Injurious Behavior
and more

4th Door Art & Music Collective
4th & Grand in downtown Junktown
Doors at 7pm
$5 cover

Noise fans listen up: tonight's the night you've been waiting for. It's the triumphant return of Clark Nova to the city that birthed him and his utterly ridiculous worldview. Better still, he's teaming up with old compadre Thousand Faced Moon for a reunion show of sorts. Don't miss it. You will be eternally sorry. You will be so sorry, in fact, that you'll have no choice but to hurt yourself. Might as well let Self Injurious Behavior handle that instead, and just go to the show.

Broken Circle Cult Returns

We've been in a state of transition since the closing of the Geriatric Pig Hatchery and our relocation to the Front Range. A three-month stint in Boulder did nothing for our creative juices or our networking prospects, so when we got to Colorado Springs in the dead of winter we were adrift at sea, with no contacts and no scene to connect with in this strange new city. We've mostly been staying in because of the snow and wind, but lots of good things are happening within these four walls. Clark Nova got on the bill for Denver Noise Fest V, and as soon as it was confirmed Charlie started putting together a special release for DNF. It's a 30-minute VHS tape. (You'd better hope you still have a VCR.) It's got a series of videos crafted by Chart himself, and there's really no describing it. But he made a big stack of them and we took them to Noise Fest. Clark Nova played and was very well received. The performance was stellar and the crowd was welcoming and appreciative. All the VHS tapes were handed out, and the response we've gotten has been great. We also got to see some incredible, groundbreaking noise artists perform, who humbled us with their mastery of the aural arts. Now we're looking toward our next big move: trying to find a place IN Colorado Springs that would consider hosting a noise show. In the meantime, though, synths are being built and tested, comedy is being written, and Broken Circle Records is working on its web presence (hence the blog post after about eight months of nothingness). Welcome back to the Broken Circle Cult; you'll be hearing a lot more from us.

The Final Days of the Hatchery.

Sad news for the Geriatric Pig Hatchery: the whole property has been purchased (and will be bulldozed) by Grand Valley Catholic Outreach, which means we have 28 days to vacate the premises. We love it here and it's been a difficult reality to face. It's only because of the crazy-low rent on this place that we were able to afford a house with a detached show space in the heart of downtown Grand Junction, without neighbors to bother with the noise. We knew we were lucky while it was happening, and now that it's coming to an end we still feel fortunate to have gotten the time we've had here. And we're exploring other avenues for continuing the regular avante-garde showcase that the Hatchery gave birth to. (If nothing else, maybe...30 Road storage units, anyone? We're welcome back there anytime.) So we'll keep you posted. Thanks for everything everyone has done to make the Geriatric Pig Hatchery the amazing place that it is. And with 28 days left to enjoy it, we're cooking up one last hurrah to take place after the Sama Dams/Vampire Suite show on Thursday, September 5th. Details to follow.

All the way from Portland.......Sama Dams

If you checked your calendar you might think this date is wrong. It's not. It's on a Thursday. 8pm. Sama Dams is coming through town and wanted to play at the Hatchery, so why not? It's gonna be sweet, and it'll definitely be some shit you've never heard in Junction before, so be sure to stop by and check it out. We're also excited to welcome Vampire Suite to the evening's festivities. They're local but we've never had them at the Hatchery before. And the somewhat-more-familiar sounds of Winter and Thousand Faced Moon will be joining us as well. As always, there's no cover charge, but Sama Dams is traveling all the way from Portland and could use some gas money, so if you have something to contribute toward that cause, donations will be gratefully accepted. Check out some stuff from Sama Dams here: http://samadams.bandcamp.com/track/pretty-ghosts

Movie Night Highlights

Movie night was fantastic. Thanks to everyone who came out to see Monster Squad & Young Frankenstein on the big screen.
We'd like to take a poll and ask what double feature people would like to see in the future? We all agreed that Monster Squad was an excellent choice, but Young Frankenstein (though an excellent movie) was a little too low-key in a way. It didn't keep the energy up for the night.
So keep that in mind with your suggestions. Going along with the monster theme, Jessie made the most amazing cupcakes (in taste and appearance) that resembled braaaaaaaaains!
And Zira also joined the festivities for the evening. It was her first Hatchery appearance. She had fun.
We also played around with some long-exposure photography. Everyone had a good time, and we look forward to the next movie night. Stay tuned here for details on the next live show too.

Movie Night Double Feature: Monster Squad & Young Frankenstein

We're still nailing down all the details of the next show at the Geriatric Pig Hatchery, but we are doing something a little different this weekend: Movie Night Double Feature. We hope to do this on a fairly regular basis (probably not monthly, but maybe quarterly). For our first go, we've picked 2 movies that we think a lot of people will be excited about: Monster Squad & Young Frankenstein. These two features will be projected onto the screen where you're accustomed to seeing liquid light shows and digital displays during various musical performances. If you plan to attend, bring your own seating (camp chair, picnic blanket, or the like), and we'll provide monster-themed snacks and such. It's going to be lots of fun, and we can all talk about what you'd like to see for the next movie night. Please consider joining us this Saturday, July 20th, at 9:00pm. 233 Pitkin Avenue in Grand Junction.
